PVC Wiring Cable / PVC-Insulated Single Core

Description

PVC Wiring Cable / PVC-Insulated Single Core

Application:

Installation in electrical installation conduits, either surface-mounted or flush-mounted, or in similarly enclosed systems. Any use other than the recommended one may lead to a reduction in safety and/or a decrease in the expected service life of the cable. Use outside the described and specified application is not intended.

Temperature Range:

  • Static condition: -40°C / +70°C
  • Flexing condition: +5°C / +70°C

Cross-Section Range:

  • H05V-K: commonly used for cross-sections up to 1 mm²
  • H07V-K: typically starts from 1.5 mm² and above

This means:

  • A cable with 0.5 mm² or 1 mm² is usually designated as H05V-K.
  • From 1.5 mm² upward, it is classified as H07V-K, even if the construction is similar.

Why is that?  The difference lies in the rated voltage and insulation thickness:

  • H05V-K: Rated voltage 300/500 V
  • H07V-K: Rated voltage 450/750 V

The higher voltage rating of H07V-K requires thicker insulation, which also results in a larger outer diameter. This thicker insulation is only economically and technically reasonable from a certain conductor cross-section upward.

Technical Background:

The designation “05” or “07” in the type code indicates the voltage rating:

  • “05” → 300 V between conductor and earth / 500 V between conductors
  • “07” → 450 V between conductor and earth / 750 V between conductors

Comparison Table: H05V-K vs. H07V-K by Cross-Section

Cross-Section (mm²) Typical Designation Rated Voltage Application Area Remarks
0.5 H05V-K 300/500 V Equipment wiring, control circuits Thin, flexible, for low currents
0.75 H05V-K 300/500 V Lighting, control circuits Common in household appliances
1.0 H05V-K 300/500 V Control cabinet wiring Last typical H05V-K cross-section
1.5 H07V-K 450/750 V Power supply, sockets, lighting Transition to higher voltage class
2.5 H07V-K 450/750 V Main circuits, distribution Suitable for higher current load
4.0 – 10.0 H07V-K 450/750 V Industrial systems, machinery Robust wiring
>10.0 H07V-K 450/750 V Power distribution, large consumers Often with special color coding

Note: The choice between H05V-K and H07V-K depends not only on the cross-section but also on the required voltage resistance and the installation environment. In safety-relevant areas or applications with higher voltages, H07V-K is mandatory.
